Body kit (2009)

The model is produced by Golden Arrow and is a "superstructure only" kit. So I have been looking for a suitable drive ever since I bought the kit. I am also figuring out a way to make two outside framed bogies with Walschaerts' gear.

The kit comes in a simple sturdy box, not fancy but fit for the job.

This is what you get for £35 (€40): a reasonably well cast white metal kit.

What you get is essentially a headstart for a scratch building project.

Golden Arrow recommend obtaining two Ibertren Cuckoo chassis to power the locomotive but as there unprototypical and not readily available anymore I want to find better solution.

Chassis kit (2024)

I had the body kit of Monarch lying about but the main problem was that I did not have a decent valve gear to build it. So time passed as many other things were pressing and enjoyable as well.

Then in January 2024 an eBay offer came up for an etched frame and valve gear set suitable for both the Monarch as well as for the K1. I bought two etch sets and the body kit of the K1, so I now had two complete kits. Well, that is to say, except for the wheels, motor and gearbox to source (sigh). But who says I should hurry

Although measuring just 7x9 cm this kit has a lot of small parts. The etching is again of good quality and being done in nickel silver is an absolute bonus. On the left is a bag containing pick-up wire, circuit board for the wire and pins for alignment during soldering (I guess).
